The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, which came into force on 26 January 1950. Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar is regarded as the father of the Indian Constitution. The Constitution of India is a supreme law of India, which lays down the framework that defines the political principles, establishes the structure, procedures, powers and duties of Government institution.

![]() 1. International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women is observed today (25th November) across the globe to raise awareness about the problem. UN Secretary General's Campaign for the year 2013 'Unite to end violence against women' has announced the 25th of each month as Orange Day. The day invites to wear orange attire to highlight its calls for the eradication of violence against women without delay. This year, the Unite Campaign is extending Orange Day to 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. ![]() 1. Justice Ajit Prakash Shah today took over as the new Chairman of the 20th Law Commission of India. Justice Shah succeeds Justice D. K Jain who resigned last month to take over as the President of National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. Justice Shah started his career as a lawyer at Solapur district Court in Maharashtra and in Bombay High Court. He was Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. The 20th Law Commission of India was constituted with the Order of the Government of India with effect from 1 September 2012. It has a three-year term ending on 31st August, 2015. ![]() 1. PM Dr Manmohan Singh today inaugurated the 3rd BRICS International Competition Conference in New Delhi. On this occasion he called for freeing state-owned enterprises from bureaucratic control and giving them greater functional autonomy to enable them to face competition. The theme of the conference is: Competition Enforcement in BRICS Countries: Issues and Challenges. The participating countries are BRICS Nations: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The two-day conference is organised by Competition Commission of India (CCI) on behalf of BRICS countries. ![]() 1. US President Barack Obama has nominated Indian-American Vivek Murthy for the post of Surgeon General, which a top American lawmaker described as a historic moment for the community across the country. If confirmed, Murthy would not only be the first-ever Indian-American to occupy this post but also the youngest ever Surgeon General of the country. The surgeon general serves a four-year term and is the administration's top official on public health issues. ![]() 1. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the first branch of Bharatiya Mahila Bank today in the iconic Air India building at Nariman Point in Mumbai with an area of 5,000 sq ft space on the ground floor. Bhartiya Mahila Bank, an all-women’s bank, will have a network of 25 branches by March 2014, according to Finance Minister P Chidambaram. Usha Ananthasubramanian, who was the Executive Director of Punjab National bank, will be the Chairperson of the bank. Headquartered in Delhi, Bhartiya Mahila Bank’s seven branches would become operational across the country, including Kolkata, Chennai, Ahemdabad and Guwahati from today. ![]() 1. Waheeda Rehman, the veteran actress of Bollywood will be conferred with the inaugural Centenary Award for the Indian Film Personality of the Year 2013 at the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on 20 November 2013. The award will be given to her in recognition of her contributions to the film industry. She has been selected unanimously by the team of five member jury. The award has been instituted by the Government of India to mark the 100 years of Indian Cinema. It includes a prize amount of 10 lakh rupees and a citation. 2. Burra Gautham Sidharth, Director, B.M. Birla Science Centre, here has been chosen for the 2013 award given by the Institute for Theoretical Physics and Advanced Mathematics Einstein-Galilei (IFM), Italy. The award recognises Sidharth’s contributions and discovery that the universe is expanding, which he theoretically predicted one year ahead of the scientific confirmation. The award consists of an IFM Diploma and a gold medal. ![]() 1. Sachin & CN Rao to be honoured with Bharat Ratna Award. Sachin first sportsperson to win country’s highest civilian honour with Bharat Ratna. In a befitting tribute to a stellar career, especially on the day he was given a tearful farewell, Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday announced the country's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, for Sachin Tendulkar. The cricketing legend became the first sportsperson to get the award. The award will also be conferred on eminent scientist Prof CNR Rao. Prof Rao is an eminent scientist and a well recognised international authority on solid state and materials chemistry. He has published over 1,400 research papers and 45 books. ![]() 1. Sachin Tendulkar is Time magazine’s ‘Person of the Moment’. Accolades continued to pour in for the retiring Sachin Tendulkar with the ‘Time’ magazine naming the legendary Indian batsman its “Person of the Moment” while as he plays his last Test in Mumbai. 2. Maldives President Mohamed Waheed on Friday stepped down as President as the country prepared to hold the second round of the Presidential election. The second round of the Presidential election will take place on Saturday with the Maldives Democratic Party candidate and former President Mohamed Nasheed being the frontrunner. ![]() 1. World Diabetes Day was observed on 14 November 2013 across the world to raise awareness of diabetes. The theme for period 2009-13 is Education and Prevention. World Diabetes Day is an annual campaign, led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations. The date was chosen because it marks the birthday of Frederick Banting, who, along with Charles Best, is credited with the discovery of insulin in 1921. |
